ISTANBUL’74 in collaboration with CLUBHOUSE BEBE

ISTANBUL’74 in collaboration with CLUBHOUSE BEBEK presents “Between the Layers”, an exhibition featuring works by Murat Yıldız and Burçin Başar, on view through 31 May 2025.

Despite the formal variety among the works, the exhibition revolves around a shared condition: a state of existing within something undefined and open-ended. A subtle floral presence weaves through this layered atmosphere.

The pieces engage with ideas such as impermanence, repetition, surface, and time — not through direct representation, but through suggestion. Rather than conveying a fixed meaning, they open up a space for observation, waiting, and slow perception.

#74ArtsAndCultureNews — Petrit Halilaj is part of “Ways of Knowing” at Walker Art Center, a project by Rosario Guiraldes. This group show includes eleven artists challenging assumptions about how we come to know what we know.⁠ The exhibition is on view through 7 September 2025.

Halilaj presents “Very volcanic over this green feather”, an installation that enlarges the artist’s drawings created when he was 13 years old and living with his family in a refugee camp in Albania, displaced by the Kosovo War. ⁠

The images are magnified and rearranged as monumental hanging cut-outs in the gallery, combining poignant images of rural landscapes and animals with scenes of war and violence. “Very volcanic over this green feather” is Halilaj’s act of reshaping painful fragments of memory into a new understanding.

The Face Magazine: Culture Shift celebrates iconic fashion images and portraits from The Face, a trail-blazing youth culture and style magazine that has shaped the creative and cultural landscape in Britain and beyond.

From 1980 to 2004, The Face played a vital role in creating contemporary culture. Musicians featured on its covers achieved global success and the models it championed – including a young Kate Moss – became the most recognisable faces of their time. The magazine also launched the careers of many leading photographers and fashion stylists, who were given the creative freedom to radically reimagine the visual language of fashion photography and define the spirit of their times. Relaunched in 2019, the magazine continues to provide a disruptive and creative space for image-makers, championing fresh talent in photography, fashion, music and graphic design.
