Art, Reality, Belonging
Musings from the ‘74 Community
Joshua Glass is a writer, editor, and creative director whose practice navigates the intersections of fashion, art, and contemporary culture. As the founder of Family Style, he reimagines editorial and creative direction through a lens that is both emotionally resonant and intellectually sharp. His work emerges through a layered storytelling approach—at once introspective and outward-looking—where identity, media, and myth converge. Rooted in this hybrid terrain, his projects engage with language, aesthetics, and authorship, offering a dynamic lens on the shifting landscapes of culture and self.

What are you working on recently?
I launched Family Style with the goal of rethinking independent magazine making. One year and a half later, we have our new sister publication, Takeaway, and another special project about to launch this fall. Suffice to say, there is always a lot going on!
A space you return to time after time?
The Noguchi Museum in Long Island City, Queens. It’s far from and different enough from Manhattan that feels like traveling to a completely different place and time.
What does the word ‘real’ mean to you?
Honesty, heart, and vulnerability. You’re real to others when you’re real to yourself.
Where is it that you most feel like you belong?
New York City. It’s been almost 20 years, and I’m not going anywhere, baby!
Istanbul in three words?
Global, gorgeous, delicious.
