Focusing on “Intercultural Dialogues,” the fourth edition of the IST. FESTIVAL has celebrated the cultural mosaic—a mix of creative people of different geographical roots, languages, and cultures that co-exist within society. This edition has kicked off with Delfina Delettrez-Fendi’s “Never Too Light” fine-jewellery exhibition, and ISTANBUL’74 Galatasaray gallery opening. Featuring participants Abel Ferrara, Hussein Chalayan, Liya Kebede, José Parlá, Shirley Manson, amongst others. In collaboration with W Magazine.

12.30 PM ABEL FERRARA & ALIN TAŞÇIYAN A conversation with legendary cult-indie filmmaker and screenwriter Abel Ferrara about his career

1 PM JR & JOSÉ PARLÁ & ALI AKAY “Wrinkles of the City”, the collaborative film created by the artists JR and Jose Parla will be screened, followed by a Q&A and the subjects structuring the work will be discussed.

2 PM LIYA KEBEDE, PETER BEARD & ERTUGRUL OZKOK
Art is a self-expression concerning the aestethical structures. The discussion will cover Africa- as an influence for Liya Kebede who has integrated her popular identification into her maternal health advocate identity and for Peter Beard who has been inspired and influenced from Africa while expressing himself with the aesthetical constitutions considered as artworks due to the continent’s cultural, environmental and well-preserved identity

3 PM TIM WALKER & STEFANO TONCHI- Dream vs. Reality: A storyteller. Discussion between Stefano Tonchi and Tim Walker on Tim Walkers career and inner dreamland.

4 PM- TUNC “TURBO” DINDAS, DIDEM DAYI & ERMAN AKCAY– A discussion with the first Turkish revolutionary graffiti artist, Turbo on the influence and importance of uncommercial Graphic Design products while exploring the idea of Experimental Art in Design and influence of Graphic Design in terms of communication.

5 PM BEYHAN MURPHY – “Brave New World” 20 minutes show followed by a Q&A session.

6 PM JAMES NARES & JOSÉ PARLÁ  & ALPHAN ESELI Screening of ‘STREET’ by James Nares  and Q&A session.

The dynamics of the digitalized music industry today vs. the 90’s: An uprising era, culture and the voice of women. The discussion will cover the concept of rebellion considering the subjects of politics, religion and its influence over her music in the 90’s, the status of women in it as well as the culture shaping music styles that were bloomed at the time such as hip-hop, alternative and electronic. Also covering the new era of the digitalized music industry vs. the authenticity of 90’s.

2 PM MURAT MENTES & BARBAROS ALTUG A discussion about the works of Murat Mentes.

3 PM HARUN TEKIN, MEHMET TEZ, TARKAN GOZUBUYUK & CEYLAN ERTEM
A discussion about the Turkish alternative rock music scene from the 90’s until now.

ISTANBUL’74 presents the fourth edition of the Istanbul International Arts and Culture Festival (ISTANCOOL) in collaboration with W Magazine from June 13 through June 15, 2014. ISTANCOOL is hosted by Demet Müftüoglu Eşeli (ISTANBUL’74 founder), Alphan Eşeli (ISTANBUL’74 founder), and Stefano Tonchi (Editor in Chief, W). 

This year’s theme is “Intercultural Dialogues in Arts & Culture.” We are gathering to celebrate the “cultural mosaic” – a mix of creative people of different geographical roots, languages and cultures that co-exist within today’s global society. This year the festival aims to bring together artists that have preserved their heritage and culture, in and outside of their geographical boundaries, by retaining their diversity and influencing the world with their cultural ethnicities.
