Delfina Delettrez Fendi
Delfina Delettrez Fendi is a designer and jeweller based in Rome. She founded her company, Delfina Delettrez, in 2007. Since the inception of her brand, she has developed a signature perspective using a wide material vocabulary, manifested in her original use of figurative surrealism and natural iconography including hands, eyes, bees, and lips. These adorn different parts of the anatomy, in a continuous game of echoes.
Delettrez’s latest work explores a more conceptual sense of the surreal: instead of adding, she now subtracts, viewing precious stones as self-sufficient in themselves and creating ‘phantom settings’ which give the illusion of fine jewels floating around the body. The unique aesthetic of Delettrez’s work comes from the marriage of classical goldsmith techniques with innovative contemporary materials, progressing traditional Italian craftsmanship to create modern, futuristic jewels. Her kinetic pieces – tourbillon bracelets and rings with spinning concentric layers of precious metal, or expandable hinged bracelets named “Detaille Unique” – utilise the excellence of traditional Italian handicraft, mixing it with postmodern inspirations, the pieces a fusion of past and future. Delettrez’s designs are hyper-modern, but still hand-made in her Roman atelier. She has one store in Rome, located on via del Governo Vecchio.
Delfina Delettrez is the youngest designer included in the permanent collection of fine jewellery at the Louvre’s Musée des Arts Decoratifs; her work has been part of the museum since October 2010.
In June 2012, gallery Antonella Villanova featured a solo exhibition in Florence entitled “Delphinarium”, a comprehensive look at Delettrez’ path as a jeweller.
In December 2012, a solo exhibition of Delfina Delettrez was showcased by Antonella Villanova gallery at Design Miami 2012.
Delettrez presented her ‘Never Too Light’ collection at Almine Rech Gallery, Paris in September 2013. In 2014 she created a short film to launch her “Gold Vein” collection. The film charts an imaginary, temporal journey beyond space and time to create a surreal vision of another world.
In September 2014 she presented her ‘HANDroid’ collection at Almine Rech Gallery, Paris. In February 2015 Delfina Delettrez opened her first London store, located at 109 Mount Street, Mayfair. A contemporary cabinet de curiosité, the store is comprised of two floors spanning 650 square feet, was designed in collaboration with New York and London based architect Rafael de Cárdenas. Inspired by the co-existing of unexpected materials and textures, the store features polished stainless steel, satin brass, silver mirrors, fur and a malachite green faux leather trompe l’oeil.
February 2015 also saw the release of A Magazine Curated By Delfina Delettrez, a landmark issue which focused on the abstract theme of ‘gold’ with contributions from an international array of artist, designers, photographers, stylists, architects and philosophers.
Delfina Delettrez introduced ‘EARclipse’ for Haute Couture Autumn-Winter 2015, a fine jewellery collection of elliptical double earrings inspired by an observation of the lunar eclipse as an alchemical event. In September 2015 Delfina Delettrez presented her ‘Faceted’ at Almine Rech Gallery, Paris which launched her reinterpretation and contemporary look at traditional wedding jewellery, proposing fine Nose engagement rings and the Marry Me rings embellished with traditional Delettrez iconography of eyes and lips.
In 2016 Delfina Delettrez was named one of Forbes Magazine’s 30 Under 30.
