Muammer Brav | Film Critic

The editor and the presenter of “Hayatım Sinema“ TV programme, Muammer Brav is a graduate of Istanbul University Department of Economics and has a PhD in industrial design. While still studying, he has coordinated Istanbul Film Festival for six years. Muammer Brav ’s interviews are being published in various magazines and newspapers, alongside his movie and film festival reviews.

Your happiest moments?
The moment a plane lands on a city I will see for the first time, watching a good movie, taking a nap with my partner on a hot afternoon.

Your source of motivation?
Painters, directors, musicians and writers I love.

Which cities are sources of inspiration for you?
Every city that embraces art and gives it the value it deserves.

What does Istanbul mean to you?
My beloved ones.

Your most memorable journey?
I have been to Sao Paulo for the last biennale. All biennale, Wim Wenders photography exhibition and Marina Abramovic retrospective and of course what Oscar Niemeyer brought in to the journey was unforgettable.

Your favorite places to visit to get ideas?
Cinemas, exhibitions and concerts. I care more about what I see and listen rather than the places.

Your most cherished possession?
My health and the people I love.

Who and what inspired you to become what you are?
Myself!

Key moment in your life?
The moment when the first episode of my program on CNNTürk “Hayatım Sinema” started.

Favourite recent discovery?
None.

Favourite artist of all times?
There are plenty. In the means of cinema, Bergman is my favorite. Best director that narrates mankind.

How will you be remembered?
It’s enough to be called a good person!

What can’t you live without?
Art and my beloved ones.

What’s on repeat on your iPod?
Back to Black by Amy Winehouse. From the first moment I’ve heard it!

Names of people whom you think revolutionized the art world?
Mozart, Bergman, Fellini, Hitchcock, Picasso.

What is the trait you most deplore about yourself?
I am not brave enough – about everything!
