Sabine Marcelis (b.1985, Alkmaar, Netherlands; lives and works in Rotterdam) creates functional and decorative objects that highlight reflection and translucency, working across product, installation, and spatial design. Her work has been exhibited at art and design fairs including Design Miami/ and PAD London, and she has produced custom installations for clients including Aesop, Burberry, and Céline. Marcelis has been nominated for numerous prestigious design awards and grants; she received the Wallpaper* Designer of the Year Award in 2020. Raised in New Zealand, Marcelis studied Industrial Design at Victoria University of Wellington and graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2011. She opened Studio Sabine Marcelis in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, shortly after graduating and began crafting sharp-angled, formal works in resin and glass inspired by the dramatic natural landscapes of New Zealand. Her interest in the relationship between light, color, and transparency has led her to more recent experiments with neon lighting.
