Belkıs Balpınar (b. 1941, Eskişehir, Turkey; lives and works in Bodrum, Turkey) is a textile specialist, a writer and researcher, and an artist. Pioneering artkilim in 1986, Balpınar has been producing textile artworks by deconstructing traditional weaving techniques and iconography. Her unique visual language combines age-old techniques with contemporary thought and science. Balpınar is one of the founding members of WWF, Turkey. While most of her one-of-a-kind pieces are woven for exhibitions, Belkıs Balpınar also undertakes site-specific and special corporate art commissions. She was commissioned to create an artkilim for the entrance walls of the World Bank Building in Washington DC, the Aramco Center in Dhahran-Saudi Arabia, and The Marmara-Manhattan Hotel in New York.
