After graduating from Economics at Bilkent University in Ankara then Parsons the New School for Design in New York , designer Asli Filinta launched her eponymous fashion label in 2008, and showcased her debut womenswear collection in the following year. With her first collection she was honoured the Young Designers Fashion Award at the Who’s Next Prêt-à-Porter Paris trade show in 2009. Asli Filinta was later invited to design scarf collection for Target, and announced by the trendsetting website DailyCandy as genuine, unique and the next among young international designers. With her second collection, she caught the eye of Vogue Nippon, and was invited to the Comme des Garçons pop-up store in Aoyama to display her collection with those of Chanel, Dior, Celine, Lanvin, Maison Martin Margiela and Marni. After appearing in Vogue Nippon and Japanese Newspaper Nissen various times and being announced as the young talent to interpret Turkish tradition with a global fashion awareness at WWD, she was invited to do an exhibition at Joyce Gallery, in Palais Royal in Paris. While her collections appear to be about femininity for young women, Asli Filinta’s main interest lies in creating clothes that are entirely unique and timeless, innovative and colourful. Constantly observing her own culture and history, she injects a distinctive elegance to her collections based on renderings and transformations of basic and funky items. Today Asli Filinta collections are available in 18 doors worldwide and 2 stores in Turkey.

THE GREAT SINAN’ by fashion designer ASLI FILINTA- a fashion presentation at ISTANBUL’74
Turkish designer Asli Filinta brings her 2013-14 Fall/Winter collection dedicated to ‘Architect Great Sinan’ – to ISTANBUL’74 during Istanbul Fashion Week.
The presentation art directed by ISTANBUL’74 also features large-size photographs of the architect’s works lensed by Turkish photographer Emre Dogru and an acoustic performance from the local Indie band 123.
The designer will be holding a private presentation on March 15 at 7PM at the ISTANBUL’74 premises in Karaköy where the collection will remain for two more days for public view. In all whimsical Asli Filinta aesthetic, the presentation, art directed by the ISTANBUL’74, will be a showcase of her colourful creations sported by mannequins. The guests will get the chance to closely examine the clothes and interact with the designer.
As the main inspiration behind the collection is the chief Ottoman architect Sinan who was responsible for the construction of more than three hundred major structures in the 16th century, large-size photographs of some of his major works shot by Turkish photographer Emre Dogru will also be adorning the walls of the art space used as backdrops to the collection.
In addition to the photographs, one of the rooms at ISTANBUL’74 will solely be functioning as a guide to the works of Sinan, through a video presentation and various books collected from the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.
The private presentation on March 15 will be stage to an acoustic performance from the Turkish electronic-indie band 123.
