HOUSE of WARIS, founded by designer and actor Waris Ahluwalia, is strongly influenced by the romance and history of ancient kingdoms. Anchored in a land of tradition yet raised in the ever-changing city of New York, Waris is in a unique position to share with the world an uncommon view. In 2011, the designer was inducted into the CFDA and placed on Vanity Fair’s Best Dressed List.
His HOUSE of WARIS jewels, coveted by collectors and fashion icons, bring together old world techniques to hatch timeless creations.
On a mission to preserve the ways of the craftsman, Waris has spent the last seven years searching the world for the artisans that approach their craft with passion and an innate understanding of raw materials. From Rome to Jaipur to Bangkok to New York, he has worked with great talents, combining the old with the new.
“I envision a world where objects made by skilled craftsmen are the most desired” says Waris, “Where a considered life is the richest.”
HOUSE of WARIS has previously exhibited work at the Museum of Arts and Design, Colette, Phillips de Pury & Company and the National Arts Club.
For this special exhibition where a specific vision and a new world are introduced, the overall interior of ISTANBUL’74′s art space in Karaköy will be temporarily re-designed by İstanbul based design studio Autoban.
Located in Süha Fazlı Han’s first floor and housed in a 150-year-old business-inn, the gallery will be completely transformed by Autoban to be in tune with the mood of the exhibition. The main idea is to allow the atmosphere to fuse with the jewels presented, to naturally lead the visitors into the story of Waris and to showcase all pieces delicately and in harmony. The Turkish designer duo renowned for creating “life styles” while designing spaces, will now channel their energy to turning the art space into an sight specific organic jewelry house.
This project is another step in ISTANBUL’74′s mission to foster collaborative dynamics by pairing creative individuals and cultures.
