After graduating from Economics at Bilkent University in Ankara then Parsons the New School for Design in New York , designer Asli Filinta launched her eponymous fashion label in 2008, and showcased her debut womenswear collection in the following year. With her first collection she was honoured the Young Designers Fashion Award at the Who’s Next Prêt-à-Porter Paris trade show in 2009. Asli Filinta was later invited to design scarf collection for Target, and announced by the trendsetting website DailyCandy as genuine, unique and the next among young international designers. With her second collection, she caught the eye of Vogue Nippon, and was invited to the Comme des Garçons pop-up store in Aoyama to display her collection with those of Chanel, Dior, Celine, Lanvin, Maison Martin Margiela and Marni. After appearing in Vogue Nippon and Japanese Newspaper Nissen various times and being announced as the young talent to interpret Turkish tradition with a global fashion awareness at WWD, she was invited to do an exhibition at Joyce Gallery, in Palais Royal in Paris. While her collections appear to be about femininity for young women, Asli Filinta’s main interest lies in creating clothes that are entirely unique and timeless, innovative and colourful. Constantly observing her own culture and history, she injects a distinctive elegance to her collections based on renderings and transformations of basic and funky items. Today Asli Filinta collections are available in 18 doors worldwide and 2 stores in Turkey.
